The Lindy hop is an American dance that evolved in Harlem, New York City, in the 1920s and 1930s and originally evolved with the jazz music of that time. It was very popular during the Swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway and Charleston. It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family.

Your Instructors:

Earl Duque has been dancing Lindy Hop since the Swing Dance revivals of the early 1990's. He learned Lindy from the dance clubs such as the Cafe DuNord, The Hi Ball, Broadway Studios and the Metronome Ballroom in San Francisco.  During the day, Earl is an Aerospace Engineer, has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering @ NAU and a Research Scientist @ NASA. He currently manages a research group for a software company based in New Jersey which allows him to venture on occasion to NYC, the home of the Lindy Hop.

Monique McConnell has been swing dancing since the late 1990s, learning with a fellow teacher, and by attending workshops and lessons in Phoenix. She was a high school teacher for 10 years ago where she taught dance in theater productions she directed.
